Flowers and Birds at the cabin

Had another awesome weekend at the cabin, finishing up a rug I've been weaving on....more about that later on. I need to take pix of it, then I will post them....but I was able to get outside for a little walking, birding and wild flower pictures too. It was my birthday, so I am now a big 52! Hah....what a beautiful place to have some peace and quiet....it really was amazing! :-)

Mickey and I went up to Mount Ashland, past the ski area to a place called Grouse Gap. We hiked around and took pix of wild flowers and just had a really great time. This is our birthday week, so we went to breakfast at Morning Glories in Ashland, then on up to the mountain. Larkspur

Butterflies and Moths of North America

A few weeks ago, I was working up near Glendale and was just getting ready to come home...on the side of a building I spied this NIKE moth...no lie...check out the swoosh on it's wing!!! So I took a picture of it and texted it to my pal who is a science teacher...She came up with identifying it as an Oak Silk Moth. After getting home I went to the Butterflies and Moths of North America site, clicked on the county in Oregon that I had seen it in, and searched for the silk moth....the only silk moths that are indigenous to both Douglas and Josephine County are the sheep moth and the Ceanothus Moth (Hyalophora Euryalus) ...which is what it is...check out the butterfly link that shows another picture of this beauty!

I am almost done reading this book by Randy Pausch....I've got to say that it is very inspiring!!! If you get the chance to read it, it's worth your time!!! He was quite an amazing man!

HEAVEN

What a wonderful weekend I had over the east side of mountain. (Mount McLoughlin) I was lucky enough to have been given a free ticket (from daughter, Dawna-Beth) to attend the saturday event of Clinton Anderson Downunder Horsemanship (horse trainer) http://www.downunderhorsemanship.com/events.cfm#wahl-walkabout-tour at the Klamath County Fairgrounds. He was quite amazing, showing many training techniques with his own horse "Mindy", then working with local problem horses that were brought in. It was great fun watching him.

I also was able to travel up to Yamsi Ranch http://www.yamsiflyfishing.com/for a fly fishing clinic. I am pretty sure John has a lake clinic coming up next weekend...To make a reservation or for more information contact John at 541-783-2403 or yamsiranch@hughes.net ...I learn a little bit more each time I take one of John Hyde's fly fishing clinics. He teaches knot tying, casting technique and then the 'real thing' as we all got to go fly fish on the private waters of the upper Williamson River and fish the afternoon away. Me? no I didn't catch any lunkers on this trip, but I feel like my casting is improving a bit, and maybe some day I will learn a few of what the names of the artificial flies are that we used. John pointed out a Wilson's snipe in flight and also a Phalarope. These are two birds I'd never seen before, so that made my whole day!!! Whenever I'm up at Yamsi there is just too much to take in...with all of the wetland water birds, to Jerri Hyde's beautiful string of ranch horses, to the delights of the home cooked meals provided by Gerda Hyde....it gets better with each visit!!! Thank you John and Jerri Hyde for another trip up to HEAVEN at Yamsi Ranch!!!!!

Mount Hood

The weekend before last I got to go up to a high school get together, and also at the same time I was able to go up to Mount Hood. Oh my gosh...my mountain...I have missed 'her' and even the ride up and back was so awesome! Listening to all my favorite country songs and feeling the sunshine coming through my moon roof!!!
