Traditional Ranch Roping Clinic-Yamsi Ranch

A few weeks ago I got to go up to Yamsi Ranch to watch a little of the Traditional Ranch Roping Clinic hosted by John and Jerri Hyde, and given by Scott Grosskopf of Buckaroo Businesses.
It's a beautiful big ranch on the Upper Williamson River, where the Hyde family raises Natural Beef, Ranch Horses, run a world-class fly fishing business, and also make beautiful Silver Western Jewelry...but more than that it's a quiet peaceful place....You can see for miles and miles, pasture and forest...wildlife...I always feel complete harmony after arriving there...

The only woman in a group of men taking the Traditional Ranch
Roping Clinic...She was quite amazing and very feminine...

Beautiful Ranch Horse with one strand of his tail tied in a half hitch around the rest of it! When I asked this cowboy about his saddle, this was his reply...."Duane Coombs built the saddle and Delwyne Trefz made the silver cantle plate.  Great rig... Wade tree, slick fork, double rig, 5 inch cantle, California half-double stirrup leathers, half-breed (1/2 carved/1/2 rough-out).  Lots of guys roping in the traditional way use a Wade tree because the tree’s design allows the weight on the rope, when dallied, to distribute closer to the horse’s back, with less torque.  The slick horn is essential to be able to run rope (compare team ropers who put rubber (inner tube) on their horns).  Running rope means giving slack through the horn and allowing your horse to have freedom in his feet.  Most guys roping the way we do use either a Wade or 3B tree.  The Wade was made famous by Hamleys  and Walt Youngman (treemaker).  Tom Dorrance brought Walt a saddle given to him by Cliff Wade and had him replicate the tree.  Now famous."
