Here we are again, at the 5th annual apple pressing. My friend Suz's husband Jake's handmade apple juice pressing machine working it's magic...well Jake works the magic using this cool old fashioned apple press!!!! Check out the boxes and baskets of apples!!!
and partaking of Suz's Bloody Marys....
Here are Suz and David working up the apples, cutting out all the yucky parts (that get recycled into the compost pile) ...then the apples move across to the grinder.
Here is Jake watching the apple juice draining out of the bottom side of the apple press into a big pot, while Suz and David are cutting the apples...me? I'm just taking pictures...didn't want to get my hands dirty ya know!
This is the grinder...Jake made this disposal into an apple grinder. The clean pared apples get put into the grinder....then as you see in the next picture the ground up apples go into a big plastic bucket, then on to the apple press...so mostly I ran the grinder this year...just trying to keep up with Suz and David cutting up all the apples.
After the apples go through the press it's time to pour them off into plastic vessels. We are able to freeze these plastic bottles and then have unfiltered apple juice the whole winter, spring and summer until next year!
Beautiful color...and the smell was divine!
Jake is off to deposit the bits and pieces of the apples that we couldn't use into his and Suz's compost pile in their garden...and Suz and David are happily still cutting up the apples!!!!!
Smile!
Our annual apple pressing picture! See..I was there! Don't we look spiffy in our aprons?
This was our take from the day...Plenty of apple juice for smoothies...completely Organic!
Then we started on Suz and Jakes apples....see the empty baskets? We already had done part of their juice, but the rest of the boxes were so pretty filled with different types of apples, I had to get a shot!
awwww....they're so like minded...it's so neat getting to visit with them each year...this year they showed us their new hen house and baby chicks...I didn't get a picture of it, but gosh they were so cute....the chicks, I mean!
I guess we were pretty much finished.....It really was a perfect fall day for apple pressing...
