This is the last picture that I took...it's a bit further on Highway 161 at the White Lake Unit...a beautiful place to stop...you could see the 'weather' trying to come in, but I don't think all the snow that they forcasted ended up dumping...and today it's beautiful in Josphine/Jackson County so far. 

We traveled over to the Lower Klamath Refuge and were able to see several deer, We also saw Bufflehead, Scaup, Pintail, American Wigeon, Canvas Back, Coot, Red Tailed Hawks, American White Pelican, Double Crested Cormorant, Common Loon, Northern Shoveler, Common Merganser, Turkey Vulture, California Quail, Sandhill Crane, Killdeer, Black Billed Magpie and Robins. Our big excitement of the day was to get reaquainted with the Northern Harrier Hawk, sight an Immature Bald Eagle and a Mature Bald Eagle as well. This is a picture of Mount Shasta in California, as seen from highway 161, also known as Stateline Road.

By the size of the bird house, It think it was meant for a wood duck family...It is quite low on a weeping willow tree at the Miller Island refuge area. We didn't see any wood ducks, however, being to late in the season and it not being very wet, I think we saw a number of ducks and geese and ran out of daylight before we had to get back over the pass. They were expecting quite a storm, however I'm not sure anything but the wind really materialized last night. 

This is a weathered fence post that I thought was quite beautiful as you can see behind is one of the goose ponds. 

The sound of these geese honking was incredible, you felt like you were a part of the flock. 

This is a field on one side of the ponds where we could freely walk out to the geese. My friend told me to keep my hands behind my back and put my head down, it was exciting to get so close to them, but they didn't seem to be alarmed by us. 

Another picture of the geese, as you can see in the background, there is snow covering the mountains and hills of the Klamath Basin. It is a beautiful country.

1000 geese. These are Snow Geese at Miller Island Refuge near Klamath Falls. A beautiful cold day hiking along the dikes, where we could hear red winged blackbirds, although barely seeing them as they clung to last years thickness of cat tails. The geese would lift off the ponds, then settle back down. The sounds of the wings and the constant goose talk was so peaceful. 

As I was coming back to the house all the geese lifted off and flew away, what was left was the quiet pond and a reflection of the trees... 

This tree is known to us as the 'lambing tree'. When we had sheep, the ewes ended up going and lying under the tree to give birth to their lambs. I guess it seemed more secluded and safe under that tree.

Canada Geese Tracks 

Just when we thought spring might have arrived with all the early flowers we got dumped with snow last night. Walked down to the barn this morning and shot a few pictures on the way... 

Here are some of the skeins of two ply from the singles of the Romney/Mohair roving that I'm spinning.

Here is some roving I've been spinning up to knit my first sweater with...I've done some socks now, some hats and now I think I"m ready to tackle a simple pull over sweater. I'm hoping to use a pattern with circular needles! The roving is some Romney that I sent out to a processor with some yellow, blue and purple Mohair and some blue flash as well...it's spinning up really chunky. I love it! 

Tons of Canada Geese are still coming into the ponds and pastures. It's so interesting to watch. Even though they are monogamous, the males are really territorial alongside the females. 

Here is the first daffodil in bloom...awesome huh? I thought with all the cold cold weather, perhaps they'd take a bit longer. These are down at the farm, but I have Narcissus closer up near the house that are also blooming and smell so delicious! 

My Vinca Minor is in bloom...this is a close up of it, note the frost on the leaves.
