A WEDDING!!!!

Dawna Beth is getting married!!!! I went with her and her maid of honor, Tannis to look at wedding dresses a few weeks ago....they were so excited and it was fun to hang out with such young vibrant women! We went out to lunch at Red Robin after, and it was fun to hear them talk about their lives, hopes and dreams!!!! DB tried on a bunch of beautiful dresses and Tannis helped her zip, tie and tuck... and fixed her hair....what a great friend!!!!

Its springtime here in Hugo and the horses didn't get worked at all over the winter. Here is Angela bending ZuZu's neck and just enjoying a spring ride. They seem to get along really well...what a beautiful day for a ride!!!!

Both of the boys PR'd (personal record) at the HenleyTrack Meet, although my oldest boy had shin splints, he still did really well. I can't imagine performing with pain like that, but he did pretty good in the 200 meters. The long jump was way harder on him, and he scratched twice...

Here they are....Aren't they ugly? well not as cute as they were as little chickies! But that is okay. They are still little, but growing wings. They can fly off of the ground about 8 inches!

Here is my husband and youngest son carrying the hen hutch back into the barn, so the chickies will be protected from the coons, cats and any other animal that might want to gobble them down. We are also still experiencing really cold nights so the shelter of the barn coupled with a few heat lamps will keep them cozy :-)

Saddle Blanket and Birds!!!!

Went over the mountain on monday and tuesday of this last week...Here is the Great Meadow, still under a little snow....but it's thawing out!!!! There were a few Canada Geese, some ducks, an Eagle and a few song birds.

So I went over to weave off this saddle blanket from my loom. It has been on there since September of last year. I just couldn't get excited about finishing it. I had to retie the apron steel rod to the front beam, because it was weaving up really uneven...

once I got that done, I flew to the finish!

Here is the saddle blanket finished. I brought it home, twisted the fringe, cut off all the stray yarn pieces from the back, washed it and dried it in the sun....need to try it on the crazy horse (Buddy)this weekend maybe....but only if he stands for a bath~~

Crater Lake Drive

I Drove to Crater Lake last monday...and stopped at a few wayside historical markers on the way. This outline is of Crater Lake Rim. It shows how Mount Mazama would have looked and the resulting peaks that now form as the rim in the distance.

Ashland High School Track Meet

Well the boys had a track meet at Ashland....to say it was cold is an understatement. At one point it was snowing and then hailing. Some of the kids didn't take off their warm up gear to do their events, and I can say I don't blame them! Here is my youngest son throwing javelin. Don't ask me how he gets his arm in that position!!!! My oldest son has shin splints. From what I can read about them, they are very painful!!! He is normally a sprinter and also does Long Jump, but at the meet his coach told him to run the 1500 meter race, and to basically not 'race', but to just jog it. Here he is below having a total blast after the first lap....(You want some of this?!!) He isn't much of a quitter tho and he sprinted the last 100 meters and passed some guys coming in. I think he took 14th overall which was pretty good for someone who doesn't run long distance races, plus he had a blast doing it! He has a huge smile on his face here!

Chickies

A few weeks ago my husband went and got 2 dozen chickies!!!!!
Rhode Island Reds, Americanas, Light Brahma and Black Beauty Sex Links...
Well at least 3 of them haven't made it so far....which is very sad....but the good news is, they are growing fast!!!!! I will try and take some pictures in the next few days....it's been super cold, so I didn't want to take them out of their warm enclosure....but it's supposed to get really nice and sunny, so stay tuned for the chicky pix!

Rhode Island Reds are a large red laying chicken, and they lay brown eggs. Americanas come in different colors! They are a large Bantam type chicken and lay greenish blue eggs!!! Light Brahmas are a white color with a few black feathers. They are a large Bantam Asiatic breed and lay large brown eggs. Sex Links are crossbreed chickens...whose color at hatching is differentiated by sex! It makes it easy to tell which one is a pullet (female) because she is always a certain color! Black Sex Links are a cross of a Rhode Island Red Rooster and a Barred Rock Hen! They lay brown eggs.

Easter Dinner at our house. I made deviled eggs, Trifle, Ham, Rolls, and the girls' favorite of Green Bean Casserole...(Bleh!) We had a good time although we were missing a few of our favorite people....maybe we'll have to do it again soon...??? for Mother's Day??? hah! Deviled Eggs

Cowboy Ragz

I am making Cowboy Ragz now!!!
Check out the ones I just finished...more later on how to tie one...
Cowboy Ragz are worn around the neck like a scarf, mostly in the cold of the winter to keep working Cowboys' necks warm in an icy wind. More and more of the buckaroos wear them as a detail of their complete tack and clothing, some of the colors being wild and bright, while still being a functional and needful accessory. My scarves are made out of washable polyester, but most have a silk-like feel, drape and look.

These Ragz are at least 36 inches square, with a few of them being larger.
